Paramore - All We Know Is Falling

Paramore

Paramore
All We Know Is Falling
My Score: 7 out of 10
Category: Pop Punk/Grrl Rock

While going thru a recent AltPress magazine I came across a review for a Christian Punk band with a 16 year old female lead singer, and with having a 15 year old daughter, it definitely caught my eye as a band that she may be interested in.  A quick search on the internet, and I found both their site and their MySpace site.  (side note for the older readers out there: MySpace has turned into what MP3.com wanted to be, a place for people to go and find bands that you will not find on your local radio).  I gave the band a quick listen, and to my surprise, the band was actually really good.  Well, really good is an injustice to the band.  They are incredible.  From Hayley Williams’s great voice, to great musicianship, it is hard to believe that the oldest in the band is only 22 (the youngest is 15, the drummer).  Because they have a female lead singer, and have a more punk/alt sound, it is hard not to want to compare them to Avril Lavigne, but that is another injustice you would commit against the band.  Avril Lavigne would love to be as good as this band (and I mean band, not just Hayley).  Can you tell I’m not a big fan of Avril?  IMHO, she single handledly ruined Butch Walker, who used to be one of my favorite artist, but that is another story.  Where Avril is very goth and deperessing, Paramore is the exact opposite, punk, but uplifting and feel good, in a Ramones sort of way.  I think the producer has Paramore sounding a little too much like fellow Christian Alt Rock/Punk Yellowcard, but these kids are young, this is their first CD, and they will learn to develop their own sound.  But the overall sound is very good, and seems to capture the band pretty well (comparing the CD to the live acoustic video the band has on their site).  Paramore was on the Warped Tour for a while, and now that is over, they are out on tour with Bedlight For Blue Eyes.  I’ve lucked out, and the tour will make a stop at a local all ages theater, Bloomfield Ave. Cafe.  I’ll be sure to blog about the show.  Odds are that you will not find the Paramore CD in your local store, yet.  So you will have to order it online.  I got my copy from Amazon, but you can also get it from Napster (and I’d expect iTunes carries it too, but I haven’t checked).  If you are into the alt scene, and are looking for something new to get into, go out and buy this CD.  I will be very disappointed if Paramore hasn’t hit the big time within a year, and I can only see good things ahead for this band.  But, when time comes to record their next CD, I’d suggest that they approach a guy like Roy Z. to produce the album.  He is known for working with the best metal vocalists around (Bruce Dickenson and Rob Halford) and adding his non-metal background to really extend and expand the sound of the band, and I think he can help the band really break new musical ground.

I was barely introduced to this band by a friend of mine, I just can't get enough of it. I love the music I listen to it everyday, all day. It is the best girl rock group out there. There is nothing else like it and no one will ever compare to it.

I worked security at the kings island concert when they played tonight. The sad thing is that I didn't actually get to see it 'cause I was working at a gate and there was this big hill in the way just blocking out the people. But later on I sort of met them, they walked by me and an EMT told me that that was the first band that played and that little girl was the singer. Later on I got to talk to a couple of them about things like if there was a farris wheel at the park and I asked one of them where I could get their album since I wasn't allowed to buy it and I left my wallet in the car... he said he's see what he could do for me and of course I never saw him again but that is okay. I don't know what is christian about this band nor yellowcard but if you say so... But anyway Haley is REALLY small! We argued about how old she was and I said I think she is 18 but I guess I was wrong. All I can say is I met her for a few seconds and then later on I didn't know who she was and told her to show me her pass until I figured out who she was again. Anyway... she seemed to be very cool. I can't imagine what an exciting life she must be living. Oh well... at least someone gets to have fun in this world!!

i found them through myspace (and i thought it wasn't worth the name it had) anyway, i listened to some songs and i thought they were incredible, after being a switchfoot fan for a while now i can say that they have some competition. it's great to see these young christians making a name for themselves. good on them!

I’m an independent consultant, specializing in .Net solutions architecture, based out of New Jersey who also doubles as an evangelist for XML, Domain Driven Design, enterprise architecture and .Net. I do not work for Microsoft, the W3C or any other big company that you may know of (at least not yet). I’ve been an indie for over ten years, and although I’ve been tempted a couple times to take a job with companies like Microsoft, I’ve haven’t found something better than my current situation. I work mostly with the large pharmaceuticals that are based here in New Jersey, and usually find myself on long term contracts. Definitely not the prototypical indie consultant, but it lets me dedicate time to my non-income generating activities like the developer community stuff, plus financing open source projects like XPathmania and MVP-XML. If you would like to talk to me about doing some contract work, just contact me via the contact page. My rates vary widely, depending on lots of different variables, but mostly distance from Jersey, and type of work. Plus, I’ve been known to donate some of my code for various projects.
