The Darkness - Permission To Land

I’m sure most of you haven’t heard of this band out of England yet, and I haven’t listened to the CD (Permission To Land) enough times to give it a proper review, but I had to get the word out about these guys.  Seems like the Brits haven’t forgot about their hard rock roots, and have finally come to there senses and started to wean themselves off the typical pop crap.  Either that, or these guys time traveled here from the 70’s.  Expect a ton of media coverage of these guys, because it looks like they sold their souls to the devil himself (that’s the RIAA if you didn’t know), and are being pushed hard by Atlantic records here in the states.  Hard rock lives, and hopefully if these guys do well, there will be a large influx on hard rock bands again.  These guys aren’t quite hair metal, more like the late 70’s versions of English bands like Rainbow, Slade, or Saxon.  Check out their video to see what I mean.  I think it is time for the rest of you to start growing your hair out again (that’s if nature hasn’t taken it all away yet).  If you are like me, and have a teenage kid, you might want to by this one for the holidays, before the kiddies catch wind of it, and you can show them that you are still hip.  People like us change by staying the same.

And what makes you so 'sure' that people won't have heard of them? In England they are huge right now. And last time I checked you can read your blog from the UK.....

I've seen the video and I'm not real impressed yet. The lead singer looks like Freddie Mercury reincarnate with less talent. Maybe my opinion will change after I hear the whole album (it's certainly happened before). However, I did decide in December to let my hair grow out. The plan is shoulder-length. No more flat-top. I haven't had long hair since highschool - we'll see. The disadvantage is I'll look like a complete dolt for a year until it gets to the right length.

I'm 14 years old and my older brother purchased this cd. I am personally a Led Zeppelin fan but i still love this album. It's great to see some old school rock in a new package.

Yea..I feel in love at first note. As soon as *I believe in a thing called love* came on the radio I was totally in love. And then seeing the video made me love them more. It's about time we got back to those kind of crazy vids..seeing as how I'm an 80's freak and all. The whole cd is great. I especially love *Love is only a feeling*. It had such an awesome melody. It's definitely worth buying.

This band is so popular in Australia, almost every teenager who has a good taste in music is into these guys from pommy land. The song 'love is only a feeling' really turns me on (in a non sexual way, lol). Anyway, just had to say that the darkness are real champs and I hope more bands like them start comming out!!

I’m an independent consultant, specializing in .Net solutions architecture, based out of New Jersey who also doubles as an evangelist for XML, Domain Driven Design, enterprise architecture and .Net. I do not work for Microsoft, the W3C or any other big company that you may know of (at least not yet). I’ve been an indie for over ten years, and although I’ve been tempted a couple times to take a job with companies like Microsoft, I’ve haven’t found something better than my current situation. I work mostly with the large pharmaceuticals that are based here in New Jersey, and usually find myself on long term contracts. Definitely not the prototypical indie consultant, but it lets me dedicate time to my non-income generating activities like the developer community stuff, plus financing open source projects like XPathmania and MVP-XML. If you would like to talk to me about doing some contract work, just contact me via the contact page. My rates vary widely, depending on lots of different variables, but mostly distance from Jersey, and type of work. Plus, I’ve been known to donate some of my code for various projects.
