Boycotting Opening Day of the NHL Season

I’m a hockey fan (NJ Devils), and I was frustrated by the lockout, and I’m really upset about the crazy stuff they put into the new CBA (the salary cap is a joke).  I don’t think that this new CBA will solve the problems of the NHL, and I want to express my dissatisfaction to the owners and the players.  I’m not willing to give up on hockey all together, but I like the idea proposed by OneGame.ca.  Here's the mission statement:

First and foremost we want professional hockey around so our grandchildren can watch it. The game must be protected so it survives for years to come. But, so far the individuals in positions to accomplish that goal have failed miserably. The recent lockout is an example that is almost too obvious. They have bumbled it to the brink of failure. The players and owners both equally share the responsibility for this fiasco. And now it rests on the shoulders of the fans to dig them out.

Our response to the lockout will determine if the sport can succeed. OneGame.ca believes that with the right set of actions the fans can set a precedent that will affect not only professional hockey, but other professional sports as well. We must make a bold statement that says, “We will not tolerate this anymore!” Another lockout cannot be allowed.

The danger is that many fans will not return to support hockey. Their anger is fully justified, but their response is not. Baseball took years to recover, however hockey simply does not have the resources or the foundation to survive the same situation. We must sustain the sport and fight for the game we love. That is why a boycott of a single game is the best option. All of the frustration and resentment can be directed towards a single act. We can force them to understand who truly has the power, but in a way that will not hurt hockey.

We'll break it down further for you.

Step 1:- Don't watch Opening Day.

Step 2:- After that return and enjoy hockey.

It's that simple.

So join us and let your voice be heard!
Boycott Opening Day and Save the NHL!

About donxml

I’m an independent consultant, specializing in .Net solutions architecture, based out of New Jersey who also doubles as an evangelist for XML, Domain Driven Design, enterprise architecture and .Net. I do not work for Microsoft, the W3C or any other big company that you may know of (at least not yet). I’ve been an indie for over ten years, and although I’ve been tempted a couple times to take a job with companies like Microsoft, I’ve haven’t found something better than my current situation. I work mostly with the large pharmaceuticals that are based here in New Jersey, and usually find myself on long term contracts. Definitely not the prototypical indie consultant, but it lets me dedicate time to my non-income generating activities like the developer community stuff, plus financing open source projects like XPathmania and MVP-XML. If you would like to talk to me about doing some contract work, just contact me via the contact page. My rates vary widely, depending on lots of different variables, but mostly distance from Jersey, and type of work. Plus, I’ve been known to donate some of my code for various projects.
