Welcome an ER Doctor to the World of Blogging

Never let it be said that the world of blogging belongs just to us techies.  I feel that there are a lot of other professions that could take advantage of blogging, and its ability for a small, very specialized segment of the population to be able to commiserate with each other over the net.  And one very good example is Emergency Medical professionals.  So when one of my best friends (who happens to be an ER doctor and administrator) started reading my blog, he realized that a lot of what us techies are doing with blogs could be utilized by his profession.  He asked me how hard it would be to set one up, and how to get started.  Since I already use the multi-blog version of .Text, and WebHosting4Life will let you have multiple domains on the same account, it was very easy for me to get him up and running in no time.  One of the things I did (since it is all under one account) is to setup his blog using the same database as mine, but give him his own domain name.  This way, I can easily aggregate specific categories of his blog, and my blog into aggregate websites, and not need any background aggregation service.  A good example will be a new site that will aggregate his music related blog entries and mine under a third domain (I bought the domain, just haven’t done the graphics for it yet).

So when you get a chance, check out EMDoc and his blog, EmerMedDoc, but be easy with him, he still is a newbie.  Maybe next time you have to go to an ER and wait 4 hours to see a doctor, you will understand why it can take so long.

One of my favorite members of the COM community was a literal brain surgeon. He said that COM was harder. : )

About donxml

I’m an independent consultant, specializing in .Net solutions architecture, based out of New Jersey who also doubles as an evangelist for XML, Domain Driven Design, enterprise architecture and .Net. I do not work for Microsoft, the W3C or any other big company that you may know of (at least not yet). I’ve been an indie for over ten years, and although I’ve been tempted a couple times to take a job with companies like Microsoft, I’ve haven’t found something better than my current situation. I work mostly with the large pharmaceuticals that are based here in New Jersey, and usually find myself on long term contracts. Definitely not the prototypical indie consultant, but it lets me dedicate time to my non-income generating activities like the developer community stuff, plus financing open source projects like XPathmania and MVP-XML. If you would like to talk to me about doing some contract work, just contact me via the contact page. My rates vary widely, depending on lots of different variables, but mostly distance from Jersey, and type of work. Plus, I’ve been known to donate some of my code for various projects.
