Scott Hanselman And Jesse Liberty Join Microsoft (Feels Like Am I The Last Of The Mohicans)

I case you haven't heard, Scott Hanselman recently announced that he is joining Microsoft as a Program Manager in DevDiv, and Jesse Liberty joined Microsoft at the beginning of the month as a Senior Program Manager in the Silverlight group.

Sometimes, I feel as though I'm one of the "Last of the Mohicans".  But in reality, it is really just a natural changing of the guard.  There will be new bloggers/authors/notables to replace those that join the ranks of Microsoft.  Since I joined the blogging craze way back in 2003, a number of my friends from the community have gone on to work work Microsoft (Kirk Allen Evans, Dimitre Novatchev, Christophe Schitko, Steve Maine, and on and on), and some have left Microsoft (Rob Howard, Alex Barnett, etc.).  It is just a natural progression.  If you have not noticed, over the last year or so I found a new (at least to me) wave of high quality Microsoft tech bloggers (Dave Laribee, Dustin Campbell, Steve Eichert, etc.)

Congrats to both Jesse and Scott!

It should be known that you helped me immeasurably in getting a start in the community, showing me the ropes, making introductions, etc. I see you as Mr. Community. It's funny, any time you're at one of these events, literally everyone knows you. Anyway a big time thanks! On Microsoft absorption: to me it's a chicken-egg/balance/healthy tension thing. If too many of us loud mouths take the blue pill who will be around to keep them honest, competitive, and customer (developer) focused?

About donxml

I’m an independent consultant, specializing in .Net solutions architecture, based out of New Jersey who also doubles as an evangelist for XML, Domain Driven Design, enterprise architecture and .Net. I do not work for Microsoft, the W3C or any other big company that you may know of (at least not yet). I’ve been an indie for over ten years, and although I’ve been tempted a couple times to take a job with companies like Microsoft, I’ve haven’t found something better than my current situation. I work mostly with the large pharmaceuticals that are based here in New Jersey, and usually find myself on long term contracts. Definitely not the prototypical indie consultant, but it lets me dedicate time to my non-income generating activities like the developer community stuff, plus financing open source projects like XPathmania and MVP-XML. If you would like to talk to me about doing some contract work, just contact me via the contact page. My rates vary widely, depending on lots of different variables, but mostly distance from Jersey, and type of work. Plus, I’ve been known to donate some of my code for various projects.
