Now that I installed Office 2007, and love the new Outlook 2007, I get an invite for Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta. Seems as though this is the replacement for Outlook Express, but it a whole lot better than ol' Outlook Express. Actually, I wonder why Microsoft working on one hell of an email client that seems to be almost as great as Outlook. Actually, in the case of working with Hotmail, it seems like Live Mail Desktop is actually superior to Outlook. See, I have multiple email accounts. Hotmail, GMail, and normal POP accounts. Outlook works great with Exchange and POP mail, but Hotmail, well up until Live Mail Desktop, you had to had to have a MSN Hotmail Plus account to get Hotmail access. And it seems as though a recent update to Outlook causes it to pop up a password window for Hotmail accounts occasionally. Even when I upgraded to Outlook 2007 this still occurs. So, I decided to give Live Mail Desktop a chance, and I'm glad I did. It seems to tie into my Windows Live ID, let's me have multiple Hotmail accounts (with none of the Outlook issues), integrates with Internet Explorer's RSS storage, and has Newsgroup support. Hmm, not bad. The site also says that it will also give you access to GMail and AOL email accounts (but I haven't tried that yet).
I've been using Windows Live Mail Beta and loving it. So much so, that I was thinking of using Windows Live Custom Domains to get some free e-mail for my domain, but the thought of having only online access to my email isn't really something I wanted. Now, if I can use Live Mail Desktop to get access to my email, that would be cool. I'll have to try it out with one of my "extra" domain, and see if it all works. But, either way, Live Mail Desktop is definitely something that you should try out.
