Using REST To Implement JEST

REST – REpresentational State Transfer

JEST – JErsey State Transfer

Yes, I know that is a pretty lame pun (and example).  I’d like to welcome Sam Gentile, J. Ambrose Little and their familes to the Great Garden State.  Although I didn’t have any direct infulence on there relocations to NJ, I’d like to think that with the additon of 2 more Microsoft MVPs, we are that much closer to accomplishing my goal of making Jersey known as Redmond East.

If anyone is transfering to Texas, they are more then welcome to use TEST (TExas State Transfer), which seems pretty appropriate acronym, considering this guy lives there.

If anyone else that reads this blog is considering moving to New Jersey, you need to learn this quote (because it will become you once you spend a few months here):

I am from NJ. I curse... a lot. I say "yo", and I say it often. I never had school on Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur. I sure as hell don't pump my own gas. I know what real pizza tastes like, and I know that a bagel is much more than a f'ing roll with a hole in the middle. I judge people by what exit they get off the parkway. I can navigate a circle--with attitude. All good nights must end at a diner--preferably with cheese fries. It's a sub, not a hoagie or, worse yet, a hero, and I wash it down with soda, not pop. Two words... "mother f'er." I don't go to the beach, I go down the shore. And boardwalk brawls are just a part of the atmosphere. Yes, I drink cawfee. I know that 65mph really means 80. I've always lived within 10 minutes of a mall. When someone cuts me off, they get the horn AND the finger. And they expect it. I am from New Jersey, and damn proud of it.

Well, I keeping trying to get back on the MVP rolls. It just seems that the C# guys are a bit stricter than the C++ guys were.

Also, about that quote, one piece (" I don't go to the beach, I go down the shore.") is gonna need a bit of explaination for the out-of staters.

In New Jersey parlance, "the beach" is a strip of land with sand on one side, and an ocean on the other, while "the shore" is the section of the state made up of those town which have a beach. Hence, one would go "down the shore" for a week, and then, while there, put on a bathing suit, and "go to the beach" for a coupla hours.

Hmmm... so how does one judge one who exits at 117?

About donxml

I’m an independent consultant, specializing in .Net solutions architecture, based out of New Jersey who also doubles as an evangelist for XML, Domain Driven Design, enterprise architecture and .Net. I do not work for Microsoft, the W3C or any other big company that you may know of (at least not yet). I’ve been an indie for over ten years, and although I’ve been tempted a couple times to take a job with companies like Microsoft, I’ve haven’t found something better than my current situation. I work mostly with the large pharmaceuticals that are based here in New Jersey, and usually find myself on long term contracts. Definitely not the prototypical indie consultant, but it lets me dedicate time to my non-income generating activities like the developer community stuff, plus financing open source projects like XPathmania and MVP-XML. If you would like to talk to me about doing some contract work, just contact me via the contact page. My rates vary widely, depending on lots of different variables, but mostly distance from Jersey, and type of work. Plus, I’ve been known to donate some of my code for various projects.
