The great folks on the Visual Studio team just sent me a couple one-year subscriptions to Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite with MSDN Premium Subscription and ask me to “give them away to individuals of my choosing in the community”. I’m sure I’m not the only one that got these subscriptions to give away, so I’d really like to reward the NJ .Net Community some how. My oldest daughter’s idea was to throw a wet t-shirt contest and give a license away as the prize. I don’t know about you, but a bunch of over weight guys in wet t-shirts just doesn’t seem like what Microsoft had in mind when they they asked me to give these things away. At the moment I’m drawing a blank on how to give these things away. I could just raffle them off at a local user group meeting (BTW the NJSQL group’s first meeting is Jan. 17th 2005), or give them away to friends that don’t already have a MSDN subscription. Most of my regular readers now that I’m all about the NJ .Net community, and to that end, I’d really like to use these MSDN subscriptions to continue to foster more folks giving to the community. The problem is that I just can’t figure out what the contest should entail. So, I’m going to turn it over to you, and ask for legitimate contest ideas. If you have an idea, either leave a comment, or email me via my contact page. The registration for the subscription is good until the end of 2006, so I don’t have to rush into it, but I would like to give at least one away sometime in the first quarter of 2006.

About donxml
I’m an independent consultant, specializing in .Net solutions architecture, based out of New Jersey who also doubles as an evangelist for XML, Domain Driven Design, enterprise architecture and .Net. I do not work for Microsoft, the W3C or any other big company that you may know of (at least not yet). I’ve been an indie for over ten years, and although I’ve been tempted a couple times to take a job with companies like Microsoft, I’ve haven’t found something better than my current situation. I work mostly with the large pharmaceuticals that are based here in New Jersey, and usually find myself on long term contracts. Definitely not the prototypical indie consultant, but it lets me dedicate time to my non-income generating activities like the developer community stuff, plus financing open source projects like XPathmania and MVP-XML. If you would like to talk to me about doing some contract work, just contact me via the contact page. My rates vary widely, depending on lots of different variables, but mostly distance from Jersey, and type of work. Plus, I’ve been known to donate some of my code for various projects.
